This is a list of current high definition channels that are available in the United Kingdom, together with those coming in the future, and those that have ceased broadcasting. All HD channels in the UK broadcast at 1080i, apart from Sky Sports Main Event UHD channel and the BT Sport Ultimate 4K.
The channel was launched on 15 September 2008, in the UK, Ireland and some parts of Europe as MTVNHD (MTV-Nickelodeon HD) and in Latin America by the end of 2008. On 23 April 2012, MTVNHD rebranded to MTV Live HD. A standard-definition feed was also launched.
Certain sporting events are protected by the Ofcom Code on Sports and Other Listed and Designated Events and must be broadcast live and free-to-air on terrestrial television in the UK. Presently, free-to-air means a TV channel which is free and covers 98% of the population. [1]

The channel launched on 28 January 2008. As of March 2008, the channel had five times the viewing ratings than its main competition MTV Dance. As of July 2019, the channel still dominates the ratings over its main rival MTV Dance (now Club MTV) that was closed on 20 July 2020, making Clubland TV the only UK-based dance channel until the launch of That's Dance.
