7 November – Coverage of American sport gets its first regular coverage on UK television when Channel 4 starts broadcasting American football on a weekly basis. [1] Weekly highlights of the NFL are shown each Sunday teatime. Prior to this, American football was occasionally shown on ITV's World of Sport.
17 August – Premier Sports buys the rights to the French Top 14 league, usually broadcasting two live games per round. [13] It shows the league for just a single season as the rights pass to BT Sport for the 2013/14 season.

BT Sport Europe was introduced to broadcast the BT Sport's live UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League matches. The deal ran until 2019, when Sky TV took over BT's distribution rights in Ireland, bundling BT's channels with that of Premier Sports to produce the Sky Sports Extra bundle, only available in Ireland.
