However, many commentators never played the game at a professional level such as Dale Rowlinson and Gaz Mallachan, yet they have gone on to become famous names associated with the game.

Martin Tyler (born 14 September 1945) is an English football commentator. He worked as a commentator for Sky Sports from 1990 to 2023, covering the Premier League and UEFA Champions League, as well as other domestic and international competitions. Tyler had previously commentated for ITV in the 1970s and 1980s.
Robert Jeffrey Stelling MBE (born 18 March 1955) is an English television presenter. He presented Gillette Soccer Saturday for Sky Sports from 1994 until 2023 and hosted coverage of the Champions League between 2011 and 2015. He also presented the Channel 4 quiz show Countdown (2009–2011) and ITV game show Alphabetical (2016–2017).
