Matchbook cover, World War II, Uncle Sam. A "matchcover", or "matchbook cover", is a thin cardboard covering that folds over match sticks in a "book" or "pack" of matches. Covers have been used as a form of advertising since 1894, two years after they were patented, and since then, have attracted people who enjoy the hobby of collecting.
Adam Hats distributed a series of matchbook covers commonly known as "Sam Taubs Ring Personalities". The inside of each matchbook in the series had a biographical summary of a well known boxer of the era. Adam Hats spared no expense in advertising, often using the celebrities of the thirties and forties in their advertising materials.
