13 August – BT Sport launches its football scores programme BT Sport Score. 19 August – Live Premier League football is shown on Friday evenings on a semi-regular basis for the first time as part of the new broadcasting deal. It is the first of ten games that Sky will broadcast on Friday evenings.
14 February – BT and Sky agree a £4.4bn three-year deal to show live Premier League football matches from 2019 to 2022, but the amount falls short of the £5.1bn deal struck in 2015. March–May – BT Sport broadcasts the 2018 Indian Premier League. It is a one-off as the following year the event transfers back to Sky Sports.
Premier League deal, launch. News of BT's first foray into sports broadcasting first came about on 12 June 2012, when it was announced that they had won the rights to 38 live Premier League matches for three seasons from the 2013–14 season, beating ESPN UK, which had held the shared rights with Sky Sports the previous season.
