Hipgrave's initial break came on Manchester radio station Galaxy 102 where she presented the breakfast show, before being appointed a travel reporter on Radio 5 Live. 9 November – As part of its foray into digital television, the BBC launches BBC News 24. However, the channel launches almost a year prior to the launch of digital television in the UK and is only available 24 hours a day on cable, with all other viewers only able to watch the channel overnight on BBC One.
On 1 August 2013, BT launched its first television channels, BT Sport, to compete with rival broadcaster Sky Sports.
